To further strengthen the bilateral Exchange and cooperation between International Centre for tropical agriculture (CIAT) and China Cassava Agricultural Research System (CCARS) and to promote the research and technology development of cassava pest prevention and control in China, the International Workshop on Research and Management of Cassava Pests was successfully held in Hainan Island on May 7-8, 2014. Dr. Kris A.G. Wyckhuys and Dr. Tin Maung Aye, the delegates from CIAT as well as CIAT-CATAS representative Dr. Wenjun Ou attended the workshop. Domestic participants from CATAS, CAS and CCARS joined the event. Prof. Peng Zhang from SCCB gave two oral presentations entitled “Biotechnological approach for better control of geminiviruses and insects in cassava” and “Cassava biotechnology and functional genomics: Linking fundamental questions to bioindustrial development”. After the workshop, the participants visited the National Cassava Germplasm Repository and mechanics application in cassava field at Baisha Station of CCARS. The workshop strengthens the ties between Chinese cassava local researchers and international partners.
