The Exhibition of “Root and Tuber Crops” Shining on the “Fascination of Plants Day 2015” in Shanghai Natural History Museum

On May 16th 2015, the “Fascination of Plants Day 2015” was launched in Shanghai Natural History Museum, under the theme of “Approaching plants, caring for your health”, to showcase how plants are essential to our daily lives and a sustainable environment. In collaboration with Guangxi University, SCCB presented exhibition of cassava, sweetpotato and potato plants as well as their processed foods, attracting many visitors’ curiosity and interest.

The booth of “Root and Tuber Crops” not only showed the posters of cassava, sweet potato and potato to introduce their functions and knowledge in daily life of public, but also presented storage roots and tubers, plantlets in pots, and processed foods, to introduce to the public the major characteristics of root and tuber plants as well as food safety knowledge and clarifying rumors of misleading claims. Cassava in particular, the public rarely have the knowledge when the visitors had a chance to taste the processed foods made by the team of Bi Gu from Guangxi University. The taste of these foods was impressive and appreciated to them.

After the two days of exhibitions, the knowledge of root and tuber crops, especially cassava, was increasingly recognized, bringing a good publicity and popularity with the public.
