An international team of researchers from the SCCB and the Max Planck Institute has been able to sequence and phase the sweet potato genome. The results of the study, published today in Nature Plants with the title of “Haplotype-resolved sweet potato genome traces back its hexaploidization history“, shed light on the evolutionary history of the sweet potato. This is a major breakthrough of the scientific community in the field of polyploid genomes. The study, which was also commented by the journal with a title of "Disentangling a polyploid genome", aroused the interest and attention of the public and the media.
