On July 25th, a wonderful training course in Nantong first kicked off the Symposium on High-quality Development of Chinese Cassava Agro-technology Research System. The course focused on the technology needs of high-quality development, including measurements on cyanoglycosides, heavy metals, polysaccharides, starch, and secondary metabolites and data mining.

On July 25th, a wonderful training course in Nantong first kicked off the " Symposium on High-quality Development of Chinese Cassava Agro-technology Research System", the course focused on the technology needs of high-quality development, including measurements on cyanoglycosides, heavy metals, polysaccharides, starch, secondary metabolites and data mining. During the course, an on-site visit of equipment operation and demonstration was held in service center of Sanshu Biotech Co. Ltd.. In the evening, a youth innovation forum focusing on cassava variety creation, growth and development mechanism, stress resistance, starch processing and application shared the latest research progress and achievements of young scientists. Two graduate students, Weijing Tong and Lu Cheng, reported on the research progress of low-phosphorus response regulation and storage root development of cassava.

On the morning of the 26th, at the opening ceremony of the symposium, Chen Minghua, member of the Standing Committee of the Rugao Municipal Party Committee/Vice Mayor, Li Kaimian, Chief Scientist of CCARS, and Zhou Wenzhi, General Manager of Jiangsu Sanshu Biotech, delivered speeches successively. In the following session, Prof. Qian Yongzhong from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences gave reports on the quality evaluation of agricultural products, and Prof. Hong Yan of Jiangnan University gave a report on the industrialization of cassava starch. Subsequently, experts Zhang Peng, Lu Baiyi, Chen Qing, Tian Yang, Yan Lin and Huang Jie exchanged views on the improvement of cassava starch quality, the status of heavy metals in cassava, cassava insect resistance, moringa nutritional quality, coffee germplasm resources, and cassava cultivation technology. In the afternoon, some representatives visited the Nantong Provincial Agricultural High-tech Industry Demonstration Zone.

The symposium and training course was hosted by the CCARS and jointly organized by Zhejiang University, CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jiangsu Sanhuang Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Our center members and some graduate students attended the event.
