Our research objectives are to increase our understanding of biological questions related to the production of cassava and sweetpotato and to develop biotechnological tools for genetic improvement of their yield, quality and resistances to biotic and abiotic stresses. Taking advantage of the expertise in SIBS-CAS and ETH Zurich, SCCB has identified below research areas of strategic importance as the initial basis for the joint research program:
Storage root development and regulation;
Starch metabolism and mechanism of source-sink regulation;
Biosynthesis, modification and regulation of secondary metabolites (e.g. anthocyanin);
Mechanism and regulation of postharvest physiological deterioration;
Response and regulation to abiotic stresses (cold, drought, etc.);
Elevated resistance to insect and virus diseases.
