Biotechnology Symposium on Bioenergy Plants, jointly organized by Shanghai Institute of Plant physiology & Ecology (SIPPE) and Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBBT), was successfully held in Qingdao on April 26, 2010. The topics of the symposium were focused on main issues of bioenergy plants, which are related to two research projects supported by the Modern Agriculture Technology Field of “863 Program”. Leaders from MOST, CAS, SIPPE and QIBBT gave opening addresses at the symposium, respectively. Participants reported their project progresses and exchanged their views of the project topics. Prof. Peng Zhang from SCCB updated their progress and highlighted the perspectives of the project entitled “Breeding of transgenic cassava and sweetpotato with high starch content, tolerance to abiotic stresses and resistance to diseases”. The meeting will promote bilateral exchanges and collaboration among different groups, ensuring a smooth running of the program.
