Elite edible sweetpotato variety "Taizhong 6", jointly bred by Taian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and SCCB, was examined and approved by China National Crop Variety Authorization Committee (No: Guopinjianganshu 201303). Taizhong 6 was bred from the progenies of Lushu 8 through open pollination. As an elite edible variety, it has good taste, high sweetness, high carotenoids and less fiber. Taizhong 6 participated in the national sweetpotato regional test in North China during 2010-2011 and production evaluation in 2012. The cultivar, having a yield record of 50 MT/hectare, won the Third Place of the Food Category Group in the "Willow Catkin Cup" National Race for High Yield of Sweetpotato in 2011 and was approved by the Crop Variety Authorization Committee of Shandong Province in 2012.

The variety is very good to address the relationship between good quality and high yield. It represents a breakthrough in breeding of new edible sweetpotato varieties in recent years. Upon its official release, it has been widely accepted by industries as well as farmers with the total extension area of more than 140 thousand hectares. Its story was also widely covered by many media, such as Science and Technology Daily, Shandong TV, etc. The release of the variety has been actively promoting the development of industrialization of processed sweetpotato.
