Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) is the most devastating disease of cassava globally and spreads to China from Southeast Asia in the last several years. Regional epidemics have been reported sporadically in cassava plantations. In order to prevent the further spread of the disease, CCARS took the lead in CMD emergency action and organized the workshop on emergency action plan and monitoring techniques for cassava mosaic disease in Nanning on June 15 to 16, 2019. The experts in cassava CMD research were invited to present the progress related to pathogenesis and biotechnological control of cassava ACMV and SLCMV. The epidemic situation of SLCMV in China was reported by the scientists from the Laboratory of Disease and Control in CCARS. They proposed the emergency action plan, which was intensively discussed and agreed on the action. The participants also visited the experimental field that has the CMD and CBB disease and demo the APP for cassava disease management.

Over 80 delegates were participated in the event. Dr. Ma Qiuxiang from SCCB gave a report entitled "Biotechnological progress on cassava resistance against ACMV". The meeting is an important milestone of national action against CMD epidemics in China.
