The workshop on “Cassava cold-resistant breeding and stem storage technology” was successfully held at Guilin, Guangxi province, from November 7 to 10, 2019. The workshop was jointly organized by the “Cassava breeding technology and quality control group” and “Cassava anti-stress material production group” with the collaboration of different research stations, including Guilin, Changsha, Nanchang, and Sanming. The Principal Investigator, Prof. Kaimian Li from the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) and leaders from the Rural Affairs Bureau of Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region had attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The meeting exchanged new ideas for breeding cold resistance cassava varieties and also discussed the latest technology development for the storage of cassava stems. The attendee’s opinions were also welcomed through the open session talks and discussed the technical/industrial standards for the development of new cold tolerance varieties, storage technology and quality control of cyanogenic glycosides in cassava products. After the meeting, participants inspected cellar-type storage technology of Guilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Prof. Peng Zhang was invited to attend the conference and delivered a very comprehensive report based on the latest research findings entitled “The response and regulation of cassava to low temperature”. The meeting was highly targeted and put forward practical technologies for cassava industrialization, which accelerated the implementation of cassava northward migration plan.
