CCARS Experts Attend 2025 Cassava Biotechnology Forum in Thailand to Boost “Belt and Road” Cooperation

[2025-09-03]

From August 27 to 31, 2025, experts from the Chinese Cassava Agro-technology Research (CCARS) were invited to participate in the 2025 Cassava Biotechnology Forum at Kasetsart University, Thailand. The forum, organized by the Plant Breeding and Multiplication Association of Thailand (PBMAT), brought together leading cassava researchers from China and Thailand to exchange insights on molecular breeding, starch quality improvement, and resource innovation.

Dr. Peng Zhang delivered a keynote talk on cassava starch biosynthesis and genome editing, while Dr. Qiuxiang Ma presented new findings on the molecular mechanisms of nutrient-use efficiency. Their presentations highlighted China's advances in cassava biotechnology and underscored the CCARS's role in driving frontier research with global relevance.

Beyond the forum, the delegation visited Kasetsart University’s cassava breeding base and SMS, a leading Thai modified starch enterprise. These visits deepened understanding of cassava inbreeding, virus resistance, and industrial applications, while opening new opportunities for joint research, technology transfer, and industry–academia collaboration.

This exchange showcased CCARS's active role as a bridge in international scientific cooperation. Looking forward, the system will continue to align with the “Belt and Road” Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation Initiative to strengthen China–Thailand collaboration in cassava breeding, germplasm innovation, and high-value applications, contributing to the sustainable development of tropical agriculture.
